What Your Business Should Know Before Hiring a Photographer

We asked Nebraska photographer Torie Egger a few questions about what brands and businesses need to do before hiring a photographer.

Q. What’s the most important thing a brand should look for when searching for a photographer?

A. I think it is super important to look for someone who matches your brand with their editing style and it is also important to find someone who fits your personality too. I for one am a very laid back person but I am also fast with my delivery of photos and sending products back so I feel that makes me easy to work with.

 Q. What are some must have conversations a brand should have with a photographer before heading out to the location?

A. Before doing the shoot I think it is important to have some sort of contract or written down agreement stating how the photos can be used, who can use the photos, and that the photos can not be edited by anyone but the photographer.

Q. Why is it important for a brand to have a mood board or inspiration board to show a photographer?

A. As a photographer it can be hard to read what you are thinking in your head and your idea of what you want for the shoot so having a visual idea that we can see is super important because it does provide us with a base idea for the shoot.

Q. Can a brand work remotely with a photographer and how does that work?

A. A lot of the brand work that I have done has been done this way where brands ship to me and I feel it cost less for them to ship it to me then it would for me to travel all the way to them, so financially it is a good idea. Also, this is a good way for you to find different models to model your products and you get to have different locations instead of posting the same pictures and models on your social media. I feel this way is the easiest for business because they don’t have to do a ton of work for it because I can set up the shoot, find the models and provide the pictures, all they have to do is send me the product.
