Summer Western Wedding Trend Report

We recently got the chance to interview Sarah Caldwell, a Western Wedding and Lifestyle photographer. We asked her to tell us about herself, how she got into the industry and why she thinks Western Weddings are so special. As well as what her predictions are for Western Wedding trends during the summer season. There is still a little more than a month left of the summer season and surely these trends will carry over to the fall as well. Keep reading to learn more about Sarah, the trends she predicted, and the magic of Western Weddings!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into photographing Western Weddings!

I'm 26 years old and married to a team roper. I grew up on a cattle operation, and showed/judged livestock in high school. Because of my background in Ag, I went to college to be an Ag Teacher! But ended up doing photography as a side hustle in college, and it turned into my full time job.

Now I photograph weddings, seniors, families, and the occasional ranch/team roping content. I photograph all styles of weddings & projects, but those that are more "western" have a special place in my heart.

What are your predictions of the top 5 summer Western Wedding trends we will see (dresses, flowers, decor, locations, etc.)?

I think fringe on dresses is going to be seen more and more. I don't think the pampas grass will be going away any time soon, but I do believe more and more brides will start adding vibrant color back in to their wedding palettes and less neutrals! - I feel like eucalyptus might be on its way out & there will be more florals vs. greenery. - In terms of location, I've had many couples shoot on their family land/property! That, and elopements vs. a traditional church or venue wedding.

Finally, What do you think is the most special thing about Western Weddings?

The family heritage that you can incorporate into them is so special. Couples who brand a hide, piece of wood, or a live cow/horse for their unity ceremony is unlike any other! Most of the Western weddings I have shot also seem to be more intentional and more about the most special people in their life coming together to celebrate the couple!

We loved getting the chance to interview Sarah and we will have to talk to her again when fall roles around to hear her predictions for the new season!
